Ilkley

The Romans had a station here called ‘Olicana’. The Cow and Calf Rocks on the moors above the town are a popular attraction and there are Bronze and Iron Age carved stones to be found nearby.

White Wells is a remaining link with Ilkley’s  past as a spa town.

Charles Darwin underwent hydropathic treatment at Wells House around the time his book ’On the Origin of Species’ was published in November 1859.
