St Mary’s church was built in the 13th century and is a Grade ll listed building

A field north of the Swale was, in 1319 the scene of a battle between a force of about 15,000 Yorkshire clerics and 20,000 Scots. The English army was no match for the Scots and many were drowned in the Swale as they attempted to flee the battle.
